Written for Onyx Brass, broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s “In Tune”, and premiered in concert with the BBC Singers 2015.
A short uplifting fanfare - punchy, bright, impressive, can be suitable for Christmas or all-year-round performances.

“Liberté” refers to the fact that on the night of beginning writing the work, we heard the breaking news of the Paris attacks (November 2015). In the middle of the ocean at the time, I felt so far removed from everything, but was extremely moved by the courage and defiance shown by the public in Paris and afar.
The piece has odd twists of harmony and some challenges, but is overall upbeat, defiant, and takes great joy & gratitude in a feeling of freedom.
